New CCD Noise Reduction GIMP Plugin!

Below is a photo taken by a Fuji f31fd in very low light conditions with no flash. If you click on it and view a larger size it becomes very apparent that the CCD noise is really bad.




This is the same picture after a run through a new GIMP plugin (at least it is new to me) called GREYCstoration. This FREE plugin does a better or at least as good a job on noise reduction than any of the commercial ones I have evaluated. INCLUDING Noise Ninja!! Just click on this one and make the comparison yourself.


Although the photo is no where near perfect when viewed at 100% (what you get when you click), at 50% this process makes it acceptable. In my opinion certain elements including her hair and skin texture are clearer after GREYCstoration than before!! Where do I get this fantastic piece of software you might ask? Directly from the GREYCStoration web site. There are also other pieces of software that use this algorithm in case you don't have or want to install GIMP.
