I attended a small festival and art show in Hermann Missouri this past weekend. Although it was hot and humid, the laid back atmosphere, the nice breeze and the great music made it a great day. The day started off with a concert by, you guessed it, Javier Mendoza. Although I shot a lot of images I got very few keepers. I was experimenting with getting the shutter speed set so that I could capture more movement blur from the band while still freezing everything else. In some cases it worked but in 99% of them it didn't. One thing that got me was the quick changing light conditions in the entertainment tent. Just as I thought I had everything set the way I wanted it and Javi started getting animated, it would get darker and I would underexpose the 400iso shots making them noisy. I guess that is the price paid for learning new tricks.
In some of the images like this one I was able to get the shutter speed close to correct. If I could have gotten it 1/3rd to 1/2 stop faster or my hand would have been just a bit steadier, this could have been a great shot.....
The view from the site where the event was held was fantastic. I really need to spend a whole day in Hermann roaming the streets with my camera.
Believe it or not this image was not taken with a polarizer! The sky was THAT blue. The only processing I did was my standard sharpening, white balance and saturation. If I would have had a tripod..... It would have been insanely sharp.... To bad I didn't.
I shot this at f/11 with my &%&$!# 18-55 Kit lens. You can tell by how soft it is. My next purchase WILL be a good wide angle!
After the show we spent some time looking through the art displays. There were some really fantastic photos for sale along with nearly every other kind of art you can think of. All in all a very enjoyable day.
